GOOD TO KNOW
BAD DOG Mag wants poetry that you’re afraid of. Send us the work that will make us laugh, fart, scream, burp, cry, squirm, and rage with jealously because we never thought to write it. Surprise us. We accept work from anyone but focus on Canadian poetry.
BAD DOG Mag does not accept any work that promotes hate, violence, sexism, racism, ableism, or bigotry.
We strongly encourage submissions from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and differently-abled writers, including of any age, religion, or background.
THEM’S THE RULES
We feature 3 poets every month
No submission fees—not now, not ever
No limitations on form or style
Only previously unpublished poems (personal blogs are fine, but please remove the work prior to submitting)
Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but let us know if anything is published elsewhere
Send up to 4 poems, start each poem on its own page, and bold the titles
Send all poems in one .doc or .docx file (PDF files also are fine to preserve special formatting)
Include a third-person bio (50 words maximum)
We’ll do our best to respond to submissions within 4-6 weeks (but probably much sooner)
Send submissions via email with the subject line “POETRY” to baddog.magazine[at]gmail.com
THE GRITTY
BAD DOG Mag is edited by one dude. You may not like his tastes
There’s a big chance we won’t read your submission if you ignore the above guidelines. It’s nothing personal
All blank emails with only an attachment will be delegated to the trash
We can’t pay contributors right now. We know how important it is to pay writers and we would if we could (we’re on it)
If your work is accepted, we ask you wait two weeks after publication to publish the work elsewhere (or do whatever you like with it)
We ask prior contributors to wait at least 1 year before submitting again
